April Garden checklist

In most places, it is quite safe to start thinking about gardening in April rolls around. Here's your garden April list.

Since early April

* Plant some peas. They are easy to grow and add great taste to all kinds of dishes.
* If the danger of frost is more in your area, plant fuchsia, geraniums and pelargoniums.
* Start the optical until planting annuals and perennials.
* You do not have space in the vegetable garden? Consider using containers of tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers and green peppers.

In mid April

* Do you have roses? Now it's time to feed the increasing number and size of their flowers.
* If you know of dry spots in your garden, plants resistant to drought, as attractive shrubs crap myrtle, laurel, lavender and wild rosemary.
* On sunny, warm places in the garden trying geraniums.

Mid-to late April

* Gardenia plant shrubs in a warm and sunny corner of smell sweet and lovely flowers. Try planting under a window for special treatment when the breeze blows!
* Begin mulch around shrubs and flowers annually to conserve moisture and reduce weeds.
* Want great color? Try planting petunias about today. For more flowering, leaving dead flowers every day.
* If deciduous flowering shrubs have flourished, is the best time to prune.
* When camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons blooming stop, food acid fertilizer.

End of April

* Feed the lawn.
* Prune the flowers, shrubs and trees.
* Watch for moth damage.
* Control slugs, aphids and earwigs.
* Plant seeds and seedlings.
